ASTHA Nepal has strong practical experience in promoting localization and locally led development, demonstrated through its implementation of the USAID Local Works Programme in Achham and Mugu Districts. Through this initiative, ASTHA Nepal worked closely with local governments, communities, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that development solutions were locally identified, collectively designed, and community owned.
The organization facilitated inclusive co-design and co-creation processes, creating meaningful spaces for local actors and community members to identify their priorities, understand local challenges, explore opportunities, and develop context-specific solutions. This approach strengthened local ownership and encouraged communities and institutions to take an active role in shaping and leading development interventions.
ASTHA Nepal’s experience demonstrates its capacity to move beyond traditional project delivery towards a locally led, participatory, and partnership-based development model. By valuing local knowledge, strengthening local capacities, and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, ASTHA Nepal helps ensure that development initiatives are relevant, inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to the realities of the communities they serve.
This experience has further strengthened ASTHA Nepal’s institutional capacity to translate localization principles into practice and to build equitable partnerships that place local actors at the centre of development decision-making.
