The Nepal DRR Project strengthened disaster preparedness and community resilience in Achham by enhancing local risk management systems and response capacity.

Project Overview

The Nepal DRR Project aimed to strengthen community resilience and disaster preparedness in Achham District. Supported by World Vision International Nepal, the project focused on enhancing local disaster risk management systems, improving early warning and response capacity, and promoting structural and non-structural mitigation measures. Implemented from November 2020 to March 2021, the project was carried out with a total cost of NPR 929,508, enabling communities and local institutions to better manage risks related to floods, landslides, fire, and earthquakes.

Major Achievements

  • Formed Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCS) in 5 working municipalities and supported DDMC/LDMC in preparing DPRP and LDCRMP

  • Conducted simulation exercises in coordination with DDMC/LDMC, Red Cross Society, Nepal Army, and NAF

  • Supported bio-engineering and river training, including gabion wall construction and non-structural mitigation

  • Conducted DRR capacity building trainings and provided LSAR materials to wards, communities, LDMC, and DDMC

  • Distributed IEC materials, hoarding boards, and broadcasted radio programs on flood, fire, landslide, and earthquake awareness

  • Prepared and distributed multi-hazard flip charts for Achham communities

  • Strengthened DRM committees through training, manual and guideline development, and emergency fund establishment

  • Conducted hazard mapping, established communication channels, and supported provision of NFI commodities.
