Project Overview:
The Poverty Alleviation in Selected Rural Areas (PASRA) project was designed to empower rural communities through sustainable development initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods. The project emphasized community-led development, improved agricultural practices, and strengthened local institutions to support long-term socio-economic growth.

Implemented Area:
Surkhet District

Major Achievements

  • Promoted on-farm income-generating activities (IGAs) and supported market linkages for improved household income.

  • Constructed key rural infrastructure including 32 km of rural roads, 29 km of foot trails, 3 water supply systems, 4 irrigation canals, 2 ponds, and 1 bridge, significantly improving access and connectivity.

  • Supported small livestock raising to strengthen household nutrition and income.

  • Established 4 cooperatives to enhance collective action and local entrepreneurship.

  • Organized 11 Reflect Classes, 22 public audits, 2 public hearings, and 11 participatory annual planning exercises to strengthen local governance and community participation.
