The SALG project strengthened social accountability and citizen participation across multiple districts by empowering marginalized groups to monitor local governance and access public services.

Project Overview:
The Social Accountability of Local Government (SALG) project aimed to enhance downward accountability of local bodies and service providers by strengthening citizen participation and monitoring mechanisms. The project supported marginalized and disadvantaged groups to access information about their rights, entitlements, and civic responsibilities. Through capacity building of community-based organizations and civil society actors, SALG promoted transparency, social accountability, and improved local governance across multiple districts.

Implementation Area:
Achham, Kalikot, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Surkhet, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Khotang, and Okhaldhunga

Major Achievements:

  • Strengthened access to information for citizens, particularly disadvantaged and marginalized groups, about public service entitlements and civic roles.

  • Enhanced the capacity and advocacy role of civil society organizations (CSOs) and strengthened community-based organizations (CBOs).

  • Supported linkages between local stakeholders and national-level civil society networks and donor agencies to strengthen accountability mechanisms.
